A's Place RHP Axford on the disabled list; Recall RHP Hahn from Nashville

The Oakland A's placed right-handed pitcher John Axford on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to April 2 with a strained right shoulder, the club announced today. To take his spot on the roster, the A's have recalled right-handed pitcher Jesse Hahn from Triple-A Nashville.

Axford has not pitched in a game for the A's during the regular season. He had no decisions and a 3.52 ERA in eight appearances this spring. The 34-year-old right-hander allowed a .345 opponents batting average and issue five walks in 7.2 innings. Axford last pitched last Thursday at San Francisco, allowing one hit in 1.0 scoreless innings of relief. This is the first career stint on the DL for the eight-year veteran.

Hahn was 1-2 with an 8.80 ERA and .352 opponents batting average in five games, including four starts, during the spring before he was optioned to Nashville March 26. He logged a 3.12 ERA over his first three games before allowing seven runs in 3.1 innings in each of his final two starts. The 27-year-old right-hander had four separate stints with the A's last year and went 2-4 with a career-high 6.02 ERA in nine starts.
