Freeman tags teammate Teheran for RBI 1B

Freddie Freeman is usually trying to provide run support for Julio Teheran when the young starter is on the mound. But the first baseman had the opportunity to face off against the right-hander when Team Canada and Team Colombia went head-to-head in the first round of the World Baseball Classic in Canada's 4-1 loss on Saturday.

Freeman got things going for Canada in the first inning against his Atlanta Braves teammate, ripping an RBI single to score Justin Morneau from second base. Teheran attempted to sneak a 1-0 changeup on the outer half of the plate, but Freeman pulled the pitch through the right side of the infield.

Then Freeman, who has stolen just 19 bases over the course of his seven-year career in the Major Leagues, tried to swipe second base and was thrown out thanks to a perfect throw from Colombia catcher Jorge Alfaro.

Teheran retired the next seven batters in a row before facing Freeman again. With no one on base this time for the big left-handed hitter, Colombia manager Luis Urueta implemented a heavy shift.

Freeman jumped on the first pitch he saw, lacing a liner into right field that looked like it would get down for his second hit of the game. But third baseman Giovanny Urshela was perfectly positioned in shallow right field and raced over to make a fantastic sliding catch to keep Freeman off the bases.

Teheran recorded the final out of the fourth, getting Canadian left fielder Tyler O'Neill to fly out to left, before cruising through a 1-2-3 fifth to retire 13 straight batters.
