Jeter wins AL Player of the Week honors
One of the best games of Derek Jeter's career earned him Player of the Week honors in the American League for the period ending July 10.

The storied Saturday at Yankee Stadium already well chronicled, Jeter went 5-for-5 in New York's 5-4 victory over the Rays, driving in the game's decisive run after homering for his 3,000th career hit earlier in the day.

Jeter became the 28th player in Major League history to reach the 3,000-hit plateau, and became just the second to do so on a homer, joining Wade Boggs.

For the week, Jeter hit .370 (10-for-27) with four doubles, a home run, four RBIs and a .630 slugging percentage. He entered the All-Star break on a six-game hit streak.

Jeter has won the weekly award twice before, the last coming in 2004. He's hitting .270 with three home runs on the season.
