SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Andre Ethier hit one of three Dodgers home runs and Julio Urias made it through his first spring appearance in a 14-3 win over the Rockies on Tuesday.
Ethier, who broke his right leg on a foul tip the last time he played at Salt River Fields last March, hit a solo shot to the right-field berm to lead off the fifth inning. It was his first homer of the spring.
"As he stepped in the box, that was first thing that came through my mind," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "I was crossing my fingers, so he hit a homer and has a good taste in his mouth right now."
Rockies starter Kyle Freeland, a long shot to crack the team's Opening Day rotation, gave up four runs, three earned, in two innings in his Cactus League debut. The left-hander gave up two hits, walked two and hit a batter, also striking out two.
"Everything felt good coming out. I think I was just a little amped up for the first game of Spring Training," said Freeland, the Rockies' first-round Draft pick in 2014. "There are definitely a few things I need to clean up. Command is one of them."
Dodgers non-roster invitee Henry Ramos connected for a three-run blast to left in the second inning off Freeland, and O'Koyea Dickson hit a no-doubter to left as part of a five-run fifth. The Dodgers scored in eight of their nine at-bats.
Urias worked just one inning, giving up a run and two hits, including an RBI single by Nolan Arenado. He struck out two, as well.
Dodgers up next: Scott Kazmir will be on the mound on Wednesday against the Giants. Kazmir gets his first Cactus League start in a night game in Scottsdale on MLB.TV, with first pitch coming at 5:05 PT. Left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu will either throw a third live batting practice session or a bullpen, manager Dave Roberts said, as the club eases him back from two operations.
Rockies up next:Tyler Chatwood will make his first Cactus League appearance of the spring in a Wednesday afternoon home game against the Padres at Salt River Fields. Veteran relievers Mike Dunn, Jason Motte and Chad Qualls also are expected to pitch. The game can be heard on Gameday Audio at 1:10 MT.
