Pirates Charities to hold "Pittsburgh Pirates Home Run 5K/10K"

New 5K and 10K routes added to annual Home Run and Chick-fil-A One Mile Family Fun Run

Pirates Charities, the official philanthropic arm of the Pittsburgh Pirates, announced the all new Pittsburgh Pirates Home Run 5K/10K, presented by Highmark and Allegheny Health Network, scheduled for Saturday, April 22, 2017. The Pirates are pleased to announce all new 5K and 10K routes to the 2017 event, featuring all-road routes that highlight Pittsburgh's North Shore and the Strip District.

The morning event will again start on Pittsburgh's North Shore, on West General Robinson Street, and all participants will have the opportunity to cross the finish line on the field at PNC Park.

Fans are encouraged to begin to register now at pirates.com/HomeRun.

The race is open to fans of all ages and abilities with staggered start times beginning at 7:30 a.m. (time subject to change). Competitive runners can choose to run in the 10K or 5K individually or take part in the team challenge, where teams of four runners can compete against other teams based on average overall time. Top 10K and 5K male and female individual runners in each age group (under 15, 16-19 and 10 year age groups from 20 to 70-plus), as well as top male, female and co-ed teams, will be recognized on the field at PNC Park prior to the Sunday, May 7 Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers game.

Fans who do not wish to run may still participate by walking the 5K route. Families may also take part by joining the Chick-fil-A One Mile Family Fun Run. The One Mile Fun Run course also includes the route inside PNC Park and is open to families of any size.

All participants will receive a specially designed commemorative Pittsburgh Pirates Home Run medal as they cross the finish line.

Registration for the Pittsburgh Pirates Home Run begins at $50 per person for the 10K and $35 per person for the 5K. Team registrations for the 10K are available for $200 per team and $140 per team for the 5K. Registration for the Chick-Fil-A One Mile Family Fun Run is $10 per child ages 14 and under and $20 per person 15-years-old and up. Please check the home page for the complete pricing structure.

All participants are invited to the post-race party that will be held on Federal Street immediately following the event and will feature complimentary food and beverages. In addition to the commemorative medal, 10K and 5K participants will receive a Pittsburgh Pirates Home Run tech t-shirt and a ticket voucher good for a complimentary ticket to any one Pirates home game at PNC Park from the following available dates: April 24 through 26, and May 5 through 7, 2017.

Family Fun Run participants will receive a specially designed, commemorative Family Fun Run t-shirt and a ticket voucher good for a complimentary ticket to any one of the above Pirates home games.

Fans are encouraged to show their Pirates pride and the participant with the most festive Pirates attire will win a customized jersey and two complimentary tickets to the Pirates vs. Brewers game on Sunday, May 7 at PNC Park.

In 2016, over 5,500 participants took part in the fifth annual Home Run race and raised nearly $230,000 to help support Pirates Charities' many local community and charitable initiatives.

In addition to Highmark, Allegheny Health Network and Chick-fil-A, the other 2017 Pirates Charities Home Run sponsors to date include ROOT Sports, The Fan, Y108, KDKA, Star 100.7, Cellone's, Silver Star and Dick's Sporting Goods.
