Due to the proximity of Marlins Park to Roger Dean Stadium (83 miles), the Marlins have the luxury of being able to shuffle all their baseball essentials back and forth whenever necessary.
In mid-January, the truck pulled out of Miami in preparation for Spring Training.
On Wednesday, equipment manager John Silverman and his staff were busy in the morning getting everything in order. Boxes were loaded into the clubhouse and unpacked.
"We unload our truck after it arrives from Miami, and then we have all of our stuff shipped in from all the brands that we use," said Domenic Camarda, a Marlins home clubhouse assistant. "We get the equipment in, we prep them up. We put stickers on all the helmets. We number all the bats that come in for all the players. We get their lockers ready."
Nameplates already are in place for all the players in preparation for their arrival. Typically, lockers are ordered by uniform number.
The Marlins have 63 players scheduled to attend big league camp -- all of their 40-man roster and 23 non-roster invitees.
In recent weeks, several players have already filtered into the complex, getting in some early work.
Pitchers and catchers will start up after taking their physicals on Feb. 14, and full-squad workouts will begin on Feb. 17 at Roger Dean Stadium.
The Marlins have made Jupiter their Spring Training home since 2003, and fans who have been attending games for years will have a treat. For the first time, there will be covering over portions of seats on the first- and third-base sides, shielding fans from the sun and rain.
