The Kansas City Royals announced changes to the Major League coaching and support staffs today. The Royals have promoted Brian Buchanan to the role of Assistant Major League Hitting Coach, while Luis Perez will serve as the Assistant Major League Strength and Conditioning Coach/Latin American Strength and Conditioning Coordinator. Both men have previously worked in the organization's minor league system, with Buchanan serving as the Hitting Coach at Northwest Arkansas (AA) and Perez as the Latin America Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coordinator in 2016.
Ryan Eigsti will be the team's bullpen catcher in 2017 and Sean Bardenett will be the club's Manual Tissue Specialist. Cody Clark, who served as the bullpen catcher the past three seasons, will serve in the role of professional/advance scout. Eigsti was originally selected by the Royals in the 15th round of the 2007 MLB First-Year Player Draft and spent five seasons in Kansas City's minor league system, reaching Omaha (AAA) in 2011.
Additionally, Austin Driggers, who has spent the last three seasons as the Strength and Conditioning Coach at Northwest Arkansas, will join the Royals' front office in a newly formed Sports Science Coordinator position.
All other members of the Royals' Major League coaching staff will return to the club for the 2017 season.
