The Cleveland Indians today announced the following promotions and additions within the club's Professional and Amateur Scouting Departments:
- Promoted Brad Grant to Senior Director, Amateur Scouting.
- Promoted Junie Melendez to Regional Supervisor.
- Promoted Andrew Krause to Area Scouting Supervisor.
- Hired Pete Loizzo as Area Scouting Supervisor.
- Hired Dan Budreika and Ethan Purser as Professional Scouts.
Grant, who has served as Director of Amateur Scouting for the past 9 years, has been with the Indians for the past 23 seasons in a variety of scouting roles. Grant will continue to supervise the club's 22 amateur scouts while also directly overseeing the club's evaluation, information-gathering and process implementation efforts for the First-Year Player Draft.
Melendez has been in professional baseball for 10 years, the last 8 of which he spent with the Indians as an area scouting supervisor in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Kentucky. In his new role, he will be responsible for overseeing the management, evaluation and information gathering process of the Indians Upper Midwest Area Supervisors. Junie is a 1999 graduate of the University of Toledo.
Krause, after filling a part-time scouting role with the Indians, will cover Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky for the club. Krause previously was the Double-A video intern for the Tampa Bay Rays and later served as their Baseball Operations intern in 2014. Krause graduated from Randolph-Macon College in 2010 and later received a masters in Sports Management from Florida State University. He also interned for Baseball America.
Loizzo will cover North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan. He joins the club from Inside Edge Scouting Services, for whom he served as an Operations Manager and Sale Associate overseeing employee training and organizing various sales campaigns. Prior to his time with Inside Edge, Loizzo was the Dodgers' Triple-A video intern in 2013 and logged time as a Pitching Coach and Director of Baseball Operations (2012, 2014-2015) for his alma mater, St. Olaf College, after graduating in 2011.
Budreika spent the 2016 season as the Major League Video Coordinator for the Miami Marlins. From 2013-2015, Budreika also served as the Marlins' Baseball Operations Video Assistant as well as their Minor League Video Coordinator. Budreika graduated from Duquesne University in 2012.
Purser most recently filled the role of amateur scout with the Tampa Bay Rays. Prior to working for the Rays, Purser spent time as a prospect intern with both Baseball Prospectus and Perfect Game. Purser graduated in 2014 from Berry College.
