Rays add Greany to training staff

New strength and conditioning assistant among club's hires

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays have hired Joey Greany as their Major League strength and conditioning assistant.

Greany comes to the Rays after nine seasons with the Royals' organization, most recently as its Triple-A strength and conditioning coach. With the Rays, he joins Trung Cao, who was recently promoted to Major League strength and conditioning coordinator.

Friday's announcement of Greany's hiring headlined a series of moves for the Rays. The others were as follows:

Jonathan Erlichman is the new director, analytics; Graham Tyler is director, baseball operations; Ryan Bristow is coordinator, professional scouting; Adam Esquer is coordinator, baseball research and development; and former Rays infielder Cole Figueroa has joined the front office as assistant, baseball development.

Bill Chastain has covered the Rays for MLB.com since 2005. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
