Cardinals non-tender pitcher Seth Maness
The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they did not tender a 2017 contract to Seth Maness, making the right-handed relief pitcher a free agent. The Cardinals Major League roster currently stands at 39 players as the team prepares for next week's Winter Meetings.
Maness, 28, was drafted by the Cardinal in 2011 and made his Major League debut in 2013, helping the Cardinals to a National League pennant and World Series appearance. Maness owns a career mark of 17-10 with a 3.19 ERA in 244 career games pitched - all as a reliever. Maness appeared in 17 postseason games for the Redbirds, going 1-0 with a 1.46 ERA.
The North Carolina native endured an injury-shortened season in 2016 that led to right elbow surgery in August. He was 2-2 with a 3.41 ERA in 29 games this past season after having surpassed 70 games pitched in both 2014 and 2015.
