The Seattle Mariners today announced their 2017 Cactus League schedule featuring 20 games at the Peoria Sports Complex. The total of 37 games matches the most in the club's Spring Training history (2009).
Because 2017 is a World Baseball Classic year, Spring Training begins a week earlier. The first game, the annual charity game vs. the San Diego Padres, is set for Saturday, February 25. The game will benefit Peoria Unified students through the Emerging Leaders Scholarship program.
Some of the highlights of the Spring Training schedule include:
- 18 "home" games at Peoria, 20 total games at the Peoria Sports Complex;
- Five night games, including three at home (March 8 vs. Cleveland, March 21 vs. Oakland, March 31 vs. Colorado);
- Back-to-back road & home games vs. the 2016 World Champion Chicago Cubs March 9-10;
- Two games against the American League Champion Cleveland Indians (March 1 at Goodyear, March 8 at Peoria);
- Postgame fireworks show at the Peoria Sports Complex on March 31 to close out Spring Training.
Cactus League Action
All 14 Cactus League Teams will play in Peoria in 2017, including the Indians (March 8) and Cubs (March 10), Los Angeles Dodgers (March 15) and San Francisco Giants (March 18). The Mariners will meet American League West division rivals a total of nine times: four games against the Texas Rangers, three against the Los Angeles Angels and the Oakland Athletics twice.
The Mariners conclude Spring Training with a pair of games against the Colorado Rockies on Friday, March 31 at 6:40 p.m. at Peoria and on Saturday, April 1 at 12:10 p.m. at Salt River Fields.
