Rays tab Cao as strength and conditioning coordinator

ST. PETERSBURG -- Trung Cao has been named the Rays' new strength and conditioning coordinator.

Cao, 50, spent 11 seasons as the organization's Minor League strength and conditioning coordinator.

Earlier in this offseason, the Rays opted to part ways with Kevin Barr, who had been the team's strength and conditioning trainer since December 2002.

Cao was named the 2012 Rays Player Development Man of the Year. Prior to joining the Rays, he worked in the White Sox organization for 11 seasons.

Bill Chastain has covered the Rays for MLB.com since 2005. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
