Vladimir Guerrero of the Los Angeles Angels and Detroit's Magglio Ordonez have joined the field for the State Farm Home Run Derby, Major League Baseball officials confirmed Friday.
Guerrero, who competed in the 2000 Home Run Derby at Atlanta's Turner Field as a member of the Montreal Expos, is batting .329 with 75 RBIs. The Angels outfielder is tied for 30th in the Major Leagues with 14 home runs.
Ordonez leads the Major Leagues with a .370 batting average and will be making his first appearance in the Derby. He has 13 home runs this season and 232 in his career, including 24 last year.
The duo will join a field for Monday night's event at San Francisco's AT&T Park that includes three of the top five home run hitters in the Major Leagues and four of the top 10: Milwaukee first baseman Prince Fielder, who leads the NL and is second in the Majors with 27 homers; Philadelphia's Ryan Howard; Minnesota's Justin Morneau (tied for fifth in the Majors with 20) and Florida's Miguel Cabrera (tied for 10th with 17).
Two more participants will be added to complete the field of eight.
Ordonez will be the first Tiger to compete in the Derby since Ivan Rodriguez at Comerica Park two years ago. The last Angel to participate was Garret Anderson, who edged Albert Pujols of St. Louis in the finals to win the event in 2003 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago. Anderson went on to hit a home run in the All-Star Game that year and was named MVP of the Midsummer Classic.
The 78th Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and Sportsnet HD and televised around the world by Major League Baseball International, with pregame ceremonies beginning at 8 p.m. ET. ESPN Radio will provide exclusive national radio coverage, while MLB.com will provide extensive online coverage. XM will provide satellite radio play-by-play coverage of the XM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday.
