Seager named Sporting News NL Rookie of Year

Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager has been named Sporting News' National League Rookie of the Year.

The 22-year-old hit .308/.365/.512, with 26 home runs, 40 doubles and 72 RBIs.

The Sporting News' Rookie of the Year Award is voted upon by players. Seager garnered 143 votes from his peers. Washington's Trea Turner came in second with 15 votes, while fellow Dodger Kenta Maeda finished third with six.

Other Dodgers to earn the award include Jackie Robinson (1947), Don Newcombe ('49), Joe Black ('52), Jim Gilliam ('53), Frank Howard ('60), Don Sutton ('66), Rick Sutcliffe ('79), Fernando Valenzuela ('81), Tim Belcher ('88), Eric Karros ('92), Mike Piazza ('93), Raul Mondesi ('94) and Hideo Nomo ('95).
