It was the first hit of the series for the rookie. Naquin struck out in each of his first three at-bats of the series, including a called third strike with a runner on first in the second inning on Monday.
With the Red Sox's bullpen warming urgently, Buchholz escaped further damage thanks to a diving stop from Dustin Pedroia to retire Roberto Perez, followed by a strikeout of Carlos Santana. Still, it gave Cleveland starter Josh Tomlin some breathing room, and gave manager Terry Francona a lead he could hand to his bullpen for the middle innings if needed.
