American League All-Star manager Jim Leyland of the Detroit Tigers and National League All-Star manager Tony La
Russa of the St. Louis Cardinals have announced the on-field staffs that will accompany them to the 78th All-Star
Game, to be played Tuesday, July 10th at San Francisco's AT&T Park.
La Russa has invited New York Mets manager Willie Randolph and San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy to
serve as the N.L. coaches. La Russa's St. Louis coaching staff - pitching coach Dave Duncan, bullpen coach Marty
Mason, first base coach Dave McKay, hitting coach Hal McRae, third base coach Jose Oquendo and bench coach Joe
Pettini - will assist with batting practice and other field duties. The N.L. training staff will consist of Stan Conte,
Director of Medical Services for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Dave Groeschner, Head Athletic Trainer for the Giants.
Leyland has asked Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire and Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington to join
him as the A.L. coaches. The Detroit coaches - infield coach Rafael Belliard, pitching coach Chuck Hernandez, bullpen
coach Jeff Jones, third base coach Gene Lamont, hitting coach Lloyd McClendon and first base coach Andy Van Slyke -
will serve on the manager's staff. Larry Davis, the Head Trainer of the Oakland Athletics, and Brian Ebel, the Assistant
Athletic Trainer of the Baltimore Orioles, will attend to the A.L. All-Stars. In addition, Hall of Famer Al Kaline will be
with the American Leaguers as a special guest of Leyland throughout All-Star festivities.
