Phillies get young outfielder to complete Ruiz deal
Curletta final piece of trade that sent veteran catcher to Dodgers
By David Adler
The Phillies acquired outfielder Joey Curletta from the Dodgers on Thursday, completing the club's Carlos Ruiz trade from Aug. 25.
Philadelphia had sent Ruiz to Los Angeles for A.J. Ellis in a swap of veteran catchers; as part of the deal, the Phillies also acquired Minor League right-hander Tommy Bergjans and a player to be named. Curletta completes the exchange.
Curletta, a 22-year-old drafted by the Dodgers in the sixth round in 2012, had spent the '16 season split between Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga and Double-A Tulsa. Curletta batted .267 with 13 home runs in 77 games at Class A Advanced, and .206 with four home runs in 29 games at Double-A.
