Scotts® and the Boston Red Sox, along with Major League Baseball and the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, will celebrate the opening of a newly refurbished baseball field at Hardiman Park in Boston today, Tuesday, September 13.

The new field at Hardiman Park will be unveiled at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon at a special dedication ceremony with Red Sox Legend Lou Merloni; Vice President of the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, Chuck Brady; Executive Vice President of Partnerships for the Boston Red Sox, Troup Parkinson; Commissioner of Boston Parks and Recreation Department, Christopher Cook; and Assistant Brand Manager for Scotts, Luke Heyward. Enhancements made to the field include: reworking the infield arc, and restoration of the sodding the infield, a new clay pitcher's mound, new batter's boxes, topdressing the base paths, reworking the infield arc and restoration of the staging area.

"These field refurbishments are just one way we can give back to youth and communities across the country," said Josh Peoples, Vice President and General Manager of Scotts®. "Encouraging fans and family to get outside and enjoy activities like baseball is what this program is all about."

This effort is part of Scotts® It's Good Out HereTM Field Refurbishment program, a partnership between Scotts® and MLB to give back to youth and communities by renovating youth ball fields around the country over the next three years.

"Providing children with a safe and welcoming place to play baseball is critical to ensuring they connect with and fall in love with the game," said Red Sox Executive Vice President of Partnerships Troup Parkinson. "We applaud our longtime partner Scotts for their ongoing support of youth baseball initiatives, and thank them, Major League Baseball, and the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation for providing much-need upkeep to Hardiman field in Brighton. We are also grateful to our Red Sox Foundation RBI coaches who have volunteered to teach clinics at the newly refurbished grounds after the dedication. This is a true example of how our partners come together to fulfill a worthy service to our community."

The It's Good Out HereTM Field Refurbishment Program is one of the key programs under MLB's PLAY BALL initiative, which began last season to encourage widespread participation in all forms of baseball and softball activities, especially among youth. Scotts® is a supporter of PLAY BALL and also the title sponsor of Scotts® MLB Pitch, Hit and Run - MLB's largest national youth skills competition.
