Pipeline preview: Buehler looks to extend hitless streak
By Mike Rosenbaum
Here's a look at top prospects to watch in Saturday's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: Rowdy Tellez (Blue Jays' No. 9), New Hampshire vs. Portland (6:35 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Tellez went deep on Friday for the fifth time in his last eight games, finishing the game 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. The 21-year-old first baseman has hit 22 home runs in 121 games this season for New Hampshire. More impressive, Tellez is hitting .301 with a .919 OPS, 53 extra-base hits and 80 RBIs in his first taste of the Double-A level.
Pitcher to watch: Walker Buehler (Dodgers' No. 7), Great Lakes at West Michigan (5:05 p.m ET on MiLB.TV)
Buehler is set to make his third pro start and second as a member of Class A Great Lakes. The 22-year-old right-hander underwent Tommy John surgery last August after being selected in the first round of the 2015 Draft and didn't make his professional debut until Aug. 10 of this year, when he fired two hitless frames for the Dodgers' Arizona League affiliate. He also recorded a hitless inning in his full-season debut last week with the Loons.
Hinsz, 20, has put together a strong full-season debut in the South Atlantic League, posting a 3.77 ERA with 61 strikeouts and 21 walks in 88 1/3 innings (16 starts) for West Virginia. The 2014 11th-rounder has thrown the ball particularly well of late, as he enters the day having allowed five hits in seven innings in consecutive starts.
Raudes hit a rough patch during the middle of his full-season debut, logging a 5.85 ERA over 10 starts for Class A Greenville from May 28 to July 28. The 18-year-old right-hander righted the ship in August, during which he pitched to a 1.04 ERA and allowed 16 hits in 26 innings across five starts. Raudes is 11-5 with a 3.63 ERA and 101 strikeouts in 111 2/3 innings (23 starts).
