Orioles claim OF Drew Stubbs off waivers from the Texas Rangers

The Orioles today announced that they have claimed OF Drew Stubbs off waivers from the Texas Rangers. To make room on the 40-man roster, LHP Kyle Lobstein has been designated for assignment.

Stubbs, 31, has batted .259/.343/.414 (15-for-58) with three home runs, six RBI, and eight stolen bases over 39 games between the Rangers and Atlanta Braves this season. Over 881 career Major League games, he has hit .244/.314/.396 with 106 doubles, 20 triples, 92 home runs, 282 RBI, and 160 stolen bases. Originally selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the first round (No. 8 overall) of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, Stubbs has stolen more than 20 bases in a single season four times (2010, 2011, 2012, 2014), including a career-high 40 steals in 2011 which ranked tied for second in the National League.

Lobstein, 27, was acquired earlier this afternoon from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for LHP Zach Phillips. He went 2-0 with a 3.96 ERA (11 ER/25.0 IP) over 14 games with the Pirates this season.
