The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired outfielder Tito Polo and left-handed pitcher Stephen Tarpley from the Pittsburgh Pirates as the players to be named later to complete the trade that sent right-handed pitcher Ivan Nova to Pittsburgh on August 1, 2016.
Polo, 22, hit .289 (127-for-439) with 86R, 17 doubles, 3 triples, 16HR, 65RBI, 34BB, 37SB, a .360 OBP and .811 OPS in 109 games between Single-A Bradenton (55G) and Single-A West Virginia (54G) this season and was selected as a South Atlantic League Midseason All-Star.
Originally signed by Pittsburgh as a non-drafted free agent on March 12, 2012, the right-handed hitter led all Pirates minor leaguers with 46 stolen bases in 2015. In 355 career minor league games, the San Andres Islas, Colombia, native has hit .271 (339-for-1,249) with 223R, 55 doubles, 15 triples, 26HR, 158RBI, 130SB and a .352 OBP.
Tarpley, 23, was 6-4 with a 4.32 ERA (100.0IP, 93H, 53R/48ER, 37BB, 90K, 8HR) in 20 starts with Single-A Bradenton in 2016. Over four minor league seasons, he owns a 20-14 record and 3.32 ERA (303.1IP, 290H, 138R/112ER, 89BB, 280K, 14HR) in 60 games (59 starts).
He was originally selected by Baltimore in the third round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, and was acquired by the Pirates, along with a player to be named later (left-handed pitcher Steven Brault), in exchange for outfielder Travis Snider on January 27, 2015.
