A's reinstate Butler from concussion DL; option Alcantara to Stockton

The Oakland A's reinstated designated hitter Billy Butler from the seven-day concussion disabled list and optioned infielder/outfielder Arismendy Alcantara to Class A Stockton, the club announced today.

Butler was batting .400 over his last 15 games and was hitting .286 with four home runs and 30 RBIs in 79 games overall when he was placed on the DL Aug. 22. After hitting .219 in April and .222 in May, Butler batted .294 in June and .348 in July. He is also hitting .333 with runners in scoring position.

Alcantara joined the A's for the third time this year Aug. 22 when Butler went on the concussion DL and went 0-for-2 in two games. He is batting .200 with no RBIs in seven games overall with Oakland. The 24-year-old switch-hitter is batting a combined .276 with 19 doubles, 10 triples, 11 home runs, 48 RBIs and 32 stolen bases in 102 games with Triple-A Iowa and Nashville.
