Colorado Rockies select infielder-outfielder Stephen Cardullo from Triple-A Albuquerque
The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have selected the contract of infielder-outfielder Stephen Cardullo from Triple-A Albuquerque and optioned infielder Ben Paulsen to Triple-A. Additionally, the Rockies have transferred right-handed pitcher Scott Oberg to the 60-day disabled list.
- Cardullo, 28, will be on the active Major League roster for the first time in his career … will wear jersey number 65 … was signed by the Rockies to a Minor League contract Jan. 6, 2016 … in 115 games with Triple-A Albuquerque, has batted .308 (125-for-406) with 71 runs, 26 doubles, five triples, 17 home runs, 72 RBI, 37 walks and six stolen bases … his .308 average ranked ninth in the Pacific Coast League … led Albuquerque in batting average, runs scored, RBI and was second in home runs … played for Rockland Boulders in the independent Canadian-American Association from 2013-2015 … was named the Canadian-American Association Most Valuable Player in 2015 after hitting .331 (119-for-359) with nine home runs, 76 RBI and 23 stolen bases … played for the London Road Warriors and Florence Freedom of the independent Frontier League in 2012 … spent the 2010-2011 seasons with Rookie Missoula in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization … was originally drafted by Arizona in the 24th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Florida State University. - Paulsen, 28, has hit .217 (20-for-92) with eight runs, five doubles, one home run, 11 RBI and five walks in 39 games with the Rockies this season … was recalled from Triple-A on Aug. 12 and hit .115 (3-for-26) with two runs, one RBI and one walk in 10 games … made his first Opening Day roster prior to being optioned to Triple-A May 13 … in 72 games with Albuquerque, has hit .276 (75-for-272) with 42 runs, 16 doubles, five triples, six home runs, 38 RBI and 24 walks … originally drafted by the Rockies in the third round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, Paulsen has batted .271 (130-for-480) with 58 runs, 28 doubles, four triples, 16 home runs, 70 RBI and 30 walks in parts of three seasons for Colorado. - Oberg, 26, has made three stints with the Rockies this season … was placed on the 15-day disabled list Aug. 22 with axillary artery thrombosis in his right arm, his first disabled list placement in his Major League career … is 1-1 with one save over his 24 appearances with the Rockies this season with a 5.19 ERA (26.0 IP, 15 ER), 26 hits, 11 walks and 20 strikeouts … made 64 appearances in his rookie season with the Rockies in 2015, going 3-4 with one save and a 5.09 ERA (58.1 IP, 33 ER) … was originally selected by the Rockies in the 15th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Connecticut.
