Rockies reinstate right-hander Chad Qualls from 15-day disabled list
DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have reinstated right-hander Chad Qualls from the 15-day disabled list and optioned right-hander Carlos Estevez to Triple-A Albuquerque.
- Qualls, 38, was placed on the 15-day disabled list on July 23 (retroactive to July 16) with colitis … the Harbor City, Calif. native has gone 2-0 with a 5.61 ERA (25.2 IP, 16 ER), 37 hits, six walks and 14 strikeouts in 36 appearances for the Rockies this season … in two rehab appearances with Triple-A Albuquerque, went 0-0 with a 21.60 ERA (1.2 IP, 4 ER), four hits, one walk and two strikeouts … signed a two-year contract with Colorado on Dec. 8 … in his career with Houston (2004-2007, 2014-2015), Arizona (2008-2010), Tampa Bay (2010), San Diego (2011), Philadelphia (2012), New York-AL (2012), Pittsburgh (2012), Miami (2013) and Colorado, is 51-47 with a 3.86 ERA (783.2 IP, 336 ER), a 9.14 hits-per-nine innings rate, a 2.33 walks-per-nine innings rate and a 6.95 strikeouts-per-nine innings rate.
- Estevez, 23, made his Major League debut for the Rockies April 23 vs. Los Angeles-NL and has gone 2-7 with 11 saves in 16 opportunities, a 5.28 ERA (44.1 IP, 26 ER), 38 hits, 21 walks and 50 strikeouts … the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native ranks second in saves among Major League rookies. have a full 40-man roster.
