D-backs' Wilken heads to Scouts Hall of Fame

SAN DIEGO -- D-backs special assistant to the general manager Tim Wilken will be inducted into the Killebrew Root Beer Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame on Friday.

Wilken will be the third member of the D-backs organization to be inducted, joining special assistant to baseball operations Mike Russell (inducted in 2013) and area scout Luke Wrenn (2015).

Wilken joined the D-backs last offseason after spending 10 years with the Cubs as director of amateur and professional scouting and special assistant to the president and general manager.

While with the Cubs he drafted Major Leaguers Jeff Samardzija, Josh Donaldson, Josh Harrison, DJ LeMahieu, Andrew Cashner and Javier Baez.

Wilken began his career as an area scout for the Blue Jays in 1979 and spent 25 years with them. While in Toronto he drafted All-Stars Mike Sharperson, Jimmy Key, Shawn Green, Chris Carpenter, Roy Halladay, Orlando Hudson, Vernon Wells, Michael Young and Alex Rios.

Wilken also spent three seasons with the Rays.
