ARLINGTON -- The Rangers dismissed television play-by-play announcer John Rhadigan and replaced him with Dave Barnett on Thursday. Barnett had been the Rangers' No. 2 man on their radio broadcasts with Eric Nadel. Barnett's radio duties will be split between Steve Busby and Bryan Dolgin. Barnett is in his third year on Rangers radio broadcasts but had spent 13 years prior to that working for ESPN on baseball, football, basketball and golf. He also was an award-winning broadcaster for the Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA. He is a native of North Texas who still lives in Denton.More
Rhadigan was in his first year as the Rangers' television play-by-play man, having replaced Josh Lewin. Rhadigan had never been a play-by-play broadcaster before but had spent 20 years in the Dallas-Fort Worth market as an award-winning television sports reporter and anchor on Rangers pregame and postgame shows. Rhadigan, according to the Rangers, will return to his duties on the pregame and postgame shows. "We feel that this restructuring will provide Rangers fans with quality television and radio broadcasts from a pregame, in-game, and postgame perspective," Rangers executive vice president for communications John Blake said in a statement. "We have a group of experienced and knowledgeable broadcasters who should work well in these roles." Busby, a pitcher for the Royals from 1972-80, has been a part of Rangers broadcasts for the past 25 years, including most recently as a lead analyst on the pregame and postgame shows. Dolgin, who has extensive Minor League radio play-by-play broadcasting experience, is in his second year of hosting the pregame and postgame shows on the radio. The changes will be in place when the Rangers open a three-game series with the Royals on Friday night at the Ballpark in Arlington.
