Designate Adam Loewen for assignment; reinstate Welington Castillo from bereavement list

The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) recalled LHP Edwin Escobar from Triple-A Reno, designated LHP Adam Loewen for assignment and reinstated C Welington Castillo from the Bereavement List, as announced by D-backs Sr. Vice President & General Manager Dave Stewart. Following yesterday's game, the D-backs optioned C Óscar Hernández to Double-A Mobile.

Escobar, 24, has gone 6-3 with a 4.25 ERA (43 ER in 91.0 IP) in 16 starts for the Aces this season. He has also made 3 appearances (2 starts) over 3 stints with Arizona.

Loewen, 32, went 1-0 with a 15.00 ERA (10 ER in 6.0 IP) in 8 games with the D-backs after having his contract selected on July 30.

Castillo, 29, left the team last Tuesday to be with his wife, Kissalry, for the birth of their second child, Jeremiah, and was transferred to the Bereavement List on Friday after experiencing complications. The complications have now been cleared up and the baby is now healthy.

Castillo is hitting .254 (74-for-291) with 15 doubles, 12 homers and 40 RBI in 80 games for the D-backs this season.
