Pipeline preview: Hu seeks next quality start

Pipeline preview: Hu seeks next quality start

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in Monday's Minor League action:

Hitter to watch: Dylan Cozens (Phillies' No. 7), Reading vs. Bowie (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)

Cozens went deep for the second time in as many days on Sunday in game one of Double-A Reading's doubleheader against Erie, giving him 28 homers for the season. The 22-year-old outfielder is two home runs behind Reading teammate Rhys Hoskins for the Minor League lead, and he also ranks among the overall leaders with his 90 RBIs and 84 runs scored.

Top Prospects: Cozens, PHI

Pitcher to watch: Chih-Wei Hu (Rays' No. 7), Montgomery vs. Jackson (8:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)

Hu has seen his prospect stock take off this season with a strong showing at Double-A Montgomery at age 22. Although he owns a 3-8 record in 19 starts, the Taiwanese right-hander has pitched to a 2.34 ERA with 81 strikeouts and 28 walks in 104 innings. He also made a spot start for Triple-A Durham early in the season -- his second Triple-A spot start in as many years -- during which he allowed four earned runs in 4 2/3 innings but also piled up seven strikeouts.

Top Prospects: Hu, TB

Duel of the day: Jack Flaherty (Cardinals' No. 4) vs. Domingo Acevedo (Yankees' No. 9), Palm Beach vs. Tampa (6:30 p.m. ET)

Flaherty, 20, struggled in his most recent turn for Class A Advanced Palm Beach on July 26 when he allowed six earned runs on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings against Fort Myers. The 2014 first-rounder has been solid otherwise, however, posting a 4.23 ERA with 90 strikeouts in 95 2/3 frames.

Top Prospects: Flaherty, STL

Acevedo, meanwhile, has been a force since his promotion to the Florida State League. In his eight starts for Tampa, the 22-year-old right-hander owns a 3.13 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 46 innings. Factor in his eight starts for Class A Charleston to begin the season, and Acevedo has a 2.54 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP and a 98-20 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 88 2/3 innings across 16 starts.

Top Prospects: Acevedo, NYY
