The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) selected LHP Adam Loewen and LHP Steve Hathaway (@Mr_Hath) from Triple-A Reno, optioned LHP Zac Curtis to Double-A Mobile, and designated RHP Josh Collmenter and INF/OFMichael Freeman for assignment, as announced by D-backs Sr. Vice President & General Manager Dave Stewart.
Loewen, 32, went 3-2 with a 3.62 ERA (15 ER in 37.1 IP) and 41 strikeouts against 27 walks in 33 games (1 start) for the Aces this season. He appeared in 20 games for the Phillies in 2015, going 1-0 with a 6.98 ERA (15 ER in 19.1 IP). Loewen will wear jersey No. 58.
A first-round selection (fourth overall) by the Orioles in the 2002 First-Year Player Draft, Loewen is the highest Canadian-born player chosen in Major League history. The 6-6, 245-pound southpaw began his career as a pitcher (2003-08) before transitioning to an outfielder in 2009. He returned to the mound for the 2014 season.
Hathaway, 25, went 2-3 with a 2.48 ERA (11 ER in 40.0 IP) and 35 strikeouts against 18 walks in 37 games between Double-A Mobile and Reno this season. He will wear jersey No. 56.
Selected by the D-backs in the 14th-round of the 2013 First-Year Player draft out of Franklin Pierce University (NH), Hathaway has gone 7-7 with a 3.08 ERA (36 ER in 105.1 IP) in 93 games (3 starts) over parts of 4 Minor League seasons.
Collmenter, 30, went 1-0 with a 4.84 ERA (12 ER in 22.1 IP) in 15 games for the D-backs this season. He was 36-33 with a 3.54 ERA (259 ER in 659.1 IP) in 200 games (75 starts) over parts of 6 seasons with the D-backs since 2011.
Freeman, 28, went 0-for-9 with 2 walks in 8 games for Arizona in his first Major League action. He was optioned to Reno on July 28.
Curtis, 24, was 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA (10 ER in 13.1 IP) in 21 games with the D-backs this season.
