Colorado Rockies select outfielder David Dahl from Triple-A Albuquerque

The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have selected the contract of outfielder David Dahl from Triple-A Albuquerque and designated outfielder Brandon Barnes for assignment.

• Dahl, 22, was selected by the Rockies in the first round (10th overall) of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft from Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham, Ala. … will be on the active Major League roster for the first time in his career … was a non-roster invitee to Major League Spring Training this season … in seven games during Spring, batted .250 (4-for-16) with two runs, one double, one home run, three RBI, six strikeouts and one stolen base … began the regular season with Double-A Hartford, where he went 80-for-288 (.278) with 21 doubles, two triples, 13 home runs, 45 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 76 games before being promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque on July 4 … in 16 games with Albuquerque, he batted .484 (30-for-62) with 17 runs, six doubles, two triples, five home runs (one grand slam), 16 RBI, six walks, 11 strikeouts and one stolen base … he will wear number 26 and be in uniform when the Rockies begin a three-game Interleague series at Baltimore tonight.

• Barnes, 30, has had two stints on the Colorado active roster this season after beginning the year on the Rockies' Opening Day roster … in 48 games, 20 starts with the Rockies this season, batted .220 (22-for-100) with 10 runs, six doubles, two triples, eight RBI, three walks, 30 strikeouts and one stolen base … in 34 games with Albuquerque, he batted .277 (38-for-137) with 18 runs, six doubles, two home runs, 14 RBI, 12 walks and 30 strikeouts … in parts of five Major League seasons with the Houston Astros (2012-13) and Colorado Rockies (2014-16), Barnes has batted .242 ( 279-for-1,153) with 131 runs, 56 doubles, nine triples, 19 home runs, 100 RBI, 65 walks, 353 strikeouts and 22 stolen bases … he was acquired from the Houston Astros along with right-hander Jordan Lyles in exchange for outfielder Dexter Fowler and a player to be named later on Dec. 3, 2013.
