Bay goes for third straight All-Star Game

Bay goes for third straight ASG

Pittsburgh left fielder Jason Bay, who became the first Pirate to start an All-Star Game in six years when he started in right field in last season's Midsummer Classic at PNC Park, heads the list of eight Pirates on the ballot for the 2007 All-Star Game to be played on July 10 at San Francisco's AT&T Park.

Joining Bay are second baseman Freddy Sanchez -- the 2006 National League batting champion and the only other Pirate to make the All-Star team last season -- first baseman Adam La Roche, third baseman Jose Bautista, shortstop Jack Wilson, catcher Ronny Paulino and outfielders Chris Duffy and Xavier Nady.

All 30 Major League teams will have 25 home dates to conduct balloting. In-stadium balloting at PNC Park will begin on May 1 and end on June 17.

More

Fans can cast their votes for starters up to 25 times with the Monster 2007 All-Star Online Ballot at MLB.com and all 30 club sites until Thursday, June 28th at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Fans around the world will again have the opportunity to select the final player on each All-Star team via the Monster 2007 All-Star Final Vote. The vote will begin immediately following the 2007 MLB All-Star Game Selection Show Presented by Chevrolet, which will be televised by Turner Sports on Sunday, July 1.

Selecting the rosters isn't the end of the fun in 2007, either. Concluding the All-Star balloting process, fans will have the opportunity to participate in the official voting for the Ted Williams Most Valuable Player Presented by Chevrolet at the All-Star Game via the Monster.com 2007 All-Star Game MVP Vote at MLB.com.

The All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports and televised around the world by Major League Baseball International. ESPN Radio will provide exclusive national radio coverage, while MLB.com will offer extensive online coverage and MLB Radio will have exclusive play-by-play coverage of the game on the Internet.

All-Star Game Coverage

Bay, who also made the team in 2005, will be trying for a third consecutive All-Star appearance. Wilson is the only other Pirates position player to appear in an All-Star Game. The shortstop made the team in 2004, and came to bat twice in the Midsummer Classic at Houston's Minute Maid Park that year.

Pitcher Shawn Chacon, who won a Colorado franchise-record 11 games before the All-Star break in 2003, was an All-Star that season and, along with Mike Hampton, became the first Colorado pitchers ever named to an All-Star team. But Chacon did not pitch in the All-Star Game at Chicago's U.S. Cellular Field because of injury.
