Prior to today's games vs. Detroit, the Chicago White Sox recalled right-handed pitcher Anthony Ranaudo from Class AAA Charlotte. He takes the roster spot of left-hander Chris Sale, who has been placed on the suspended list by the club.
Ranaudo, 26, has gone 5-3 with a 3.20 ERA (28 ER/78.2 IP), two complete games and 53 strikeouts over 13 starts with Charlotte. He has allowed just three earned runs with 11 strikeouts in 15.0 IP over his last two starts with the Knights.
The 6-foot-7, 240-pound Ranaudo was acquired by the White Sox on May 12 from Texas in exchange for right-hander Matt Ball. He was with the Rangers from May 6-10 and made two relief appearances. Ranaudo has appeared in 13 games (nine starts) over parts of three major-league seasons with the Red Sox (2014) and Rangers (2015-16), going 5-4 with a 6.33 ERA (41 ER/58.1 IP).
Ranaudo was named International League Pitcher of the Year with Class AAA Pawtucket in 2014 and Eastern League Pitcher of the Year with Class AA Portland in 2013. He originally was selected by Boston with a supplemental pick (39th overall) in the 2010 draft out of Louisiana State University.
Ranaudo will wear uniform No. 45.
