Rangers acquire 1B/3B Matt E. Duffy
The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has received first baseman/third baseman Matt E. Duffy from the Houston Astros through a waiver claim. Duffy has been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock and is expected to report there next week.
Duffy, 27, has seen action with Houston in both 2015 and 2016, going a combined 3-for-11 in 11 career major league games. The right-handed batter was on the Astros' Opening Day roster and appeared in 3 games before he was optioned to Triple-A Fresno on April 11. He was designated for assignment on July 16. Duffy has batted .226 with 6 home runs and 30 RBI in 74 games with Fresno. The Boston native was originally selected by Houston in the 20th round of the 2011 June draft out of the University of Tennessee.
With this transaction, the Rangers are at the 40-man limit on the club's major league roster.
