Padres agree to terms with Cuban OF Jorge Ona
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today announced they have agreed to terms with outfielder Jorge Ona. The agreement with Ona is pending a physical. Executive Vice President/General Manager A.J. Preller made the announcement.
The 19-year-old outfielder was ranked by MLB.com as the No. 8 International prospect in the 2016 class and ranked by Baseball America as the fourth-best Cuban player available earlier this year in February. In 2014 the right-handed hitter hit .319 for Cuba's 18U National League, prior to starring in the 2014 COPABE 18U Pan American Championship in Mexico, hitting .636 (14-for-22) with four home runs over eight games in the tournament. The Cuban-native also played in Cuba's Serie Nacional.
