The Ken Griffey Jr. Family Endowment for Pediatric Cancer Research at Seattle Children's was created in 2013 in honor of Griffey's induction into the Seattle Mariners Hall of Fame. Since 2013, it has helped fund clinical research and trials of innovative treatment of pediatric cancers at Seattle Children's. The endowment is an extension of the Ken Griffey Jr. Family Foundation, which supports children's hospitals in Seattle, Cincinnati and Orlando, as well as Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
The custom limited edition Ken Griffey Jr. commemorative wood bat features the iconic "Swingman" logo, Griffey's major career statistics, 13 stars representing his All-Star appearances and limited series engraved numbers, all in premium quality metallic silver ink. Griffey will sign each bat on the "sweet spot." The glossy black 34-inch bat is the size Griffey used during his 22-year Major League Baseball career. Ken Griffey Jr. Weekend at Safeco Field
Griffey is to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame during ceremonies on July 24, at Cooperstown, New York. He will be celebrated at Safeco Field August 5-7 during Ken Griffey Jr. Weekend as the Mariners meet the Los Angeles Angels.
On Friday, August 5, the first 20,000 fans will receive a Ken Griffey Jr. Hall of Fame Bobblehead, courtesy of ROOT SPORTS.
On Saturday, August 6, Griffey's number 24 will be retired by the Mariners during a pregame ceremony and the first 20,000 fans will receive a replica of Griffey's Hall of Fame plaque.
On Sunday, August 7, 20,000 fans will receive a replica of the jersey Griffey wore during his rookie season, 1989, courtesy of Nike.
