White Sox announce upcoming series events

Upcoming homestand features Throwback Game, Chris Sale Free T-Shirt Thursday

The Chicago White Sox have announced promotional highlights, giveaways and ceremonial first pitches for the upcoming series vs. the Detroit Tigers.

The White Sox celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1976 team with the Throwback Game on Saturday, July 23. The White Sox will honor a recognizable era in team history by wearing the collared, blue and white V-neck jerseys first worn during the 1976 season. In addition to the throwback uniforms, fans will see retro elements throughout the ballpark, including signage, video highlights and photos from the 1970s as well as concession specials. Fans can share their favorite White Sox moments by using the hashtag #SoxThrowback

This homestand also welcomes the return of fan-favorite Christmas in July as well as a Chalk Talk with Paul Konerko on Friday, July 22. Must-have giveaways this homestand include a Chris Sale Free T-Shirt Thursday, presented by the Village of Bedford Park, on July 21 and a 1976 Navy Blue Throwback Jersey, presented by XFINITY, on July 23.

Thursday, July 21, 7:10 p.m. vs. the Detroit Tigers

The White Sox invite fans to celebrate Greek Heritage Night at the ballpark. Pregame entertainment includes traditional Greek dances performed by the Neolea Hellenic Dancers. Gyros also will be served on the concourse in Sections 126 and 535. The Party Shop in Section 159 will feature Greek Heritage Night shoulder bags and scarves. Country music artist David Nail will perform the National Anthem. Nail is a former baseball player and coach who pursued his music career instead. The Missouri native is known for hits like "Red Light," "Let it Rain," "Whatever She's Got" and "Night's on Fire." His newest album -- "Fighter" -- was released in July.

UFC women's strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will throw a ceremonial first pitch. Jedrzejczyk started her professional fighting career in 2012, winning more than 60 matches in 10 years of competition. She is a five-time amateur world champion and four-time European champion. Most recently, Jedrzejczyk defeated Claudia Gadelha by unanimous decision at The Ultimate Fighter 23 Finale on July 8 to earn her third straight title defense in her division.

The White Sox celebrate Christmas in July with an array of holiday-themed entertainment at the ballpark. Fans will have an opportunity to sing along with the Jingle Tones who will be caroling on-field pregame, purchase light-up necklaces and Christmas-themed apparel in the party shop near Section 159, watch an ice sculptor as well as take photos with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, characters from the movie "Frozen" and a life-size snow globe. Santa will kick off the game by announcing "play ball!" Leftover Christmas dinner sandwiches and specialty holiday beverages will be available in the Xfinity Zone. Fans are invited to stick around after the game for fireworks set to a holiday season soundtrack. White Sox legend Paul Konerko will share his favorite White Sox memories and answer fan questions at the July 22 Chalk Talk. Tickets for this private session, which begins at 6:10 p.m., include an Outfield Reserved game ticket, patio pass, T-shirt designed by Konerko and the opportunity to listen to a Sox legend. 2011 NBA champion and Olympic bronze medalist Shawn Marion will throw a ceremonial first pitch. Nicknamed "The Matrix" for his versatility and athleticism, the four-time NBA All-Star was drafted ninth overall by the Phoenix Suns in the 1999 NBA Draft and led the NBA in steals in 2003-04 and 2006-07. The Waukegan native took home a bronze medal from the 2004 Athens Olympic Games with the United States Men's Basketball team. In 2011, Marion won the NBA championship with the Dallas Mavericks. 

Saturday, July 23, 6:10 p.m. vs. the Detroit Tigers

The White Sox will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1976 team with the Throwback Game. White Sox great Carlos May -- a two-time All-Star who wore the jersey during his tenure with the White Sox in 1976 -- will throw a ceremonial first pitch in honor of the anniversary. Fans will experience retro graphics both in-park and on the broadcast. The Party Shop in Section 159 will feature wigs, disco ball necklaces and additional 1970s party gear. Concessions will feature $2 popcorn and peanuts as well as 70s-themed cocktails in the Miller Lite Bullpen Sports Bar, Xfinity Zone and Beggars Pizza Pub. Sunday, July 24, 1:10 p.m. vs. the Detroit Tigers

Coca-Cola Family Sunday offers tickets as low as $5 in the Upper Level and $15 in the Lower Level with $10 parking. Entertainment includes children's running the bases postgame (weather permitting), face painters, balloonists and a caricature artist. The first 500 fans to purchase "Selfie Sunday" tickets will have the opportunity to enter the ballpark early for a "selfie" photo session with select White Sox players and/or coaches. Each ticket includes both a ticket to the Selfie Sunday event as well as a Lower Box ticket for the game.
