He posted a career .314 batting average in five seasons with Villa Clara in the Cuban League.
In other Rangers Minor League news, right-hander Neil Ramirez was named Pitcher of the Month, infielder Mike Olt was named Player of the Month, first baseman Chris McGuiness was named Defender of the Month, and right-hander Ryan Rodebaugh was named Reliever of the Month.
Ramirez, 21, combined to go 2-1 with a 1.39 ERA and 34 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .140 average in five starts for Class A Myrtle Beach and Triple-A Round Rock. He allowed just one hit over in 4 2/3 innings in his lone start for Myrtle Beach before a promotion to Round Rock on April 13.
The right-hander currently ranks among the Pacific Coast League leaders in opponent batting average, wins, strikeouts and ERA.
Olt, 22, hit .317 with 15 walks, nine doubles, three home runs and 16 RBIs in 22 games with Myrtle Beach. He hit safely in 10 of his first 11 games to start the season, to earn Carolina League Player of the Week honors for April 7-17.
Olt led the Pelicans in home runs and walks, while collecting the second-most RBIs during the month. He also ranks among the Carolina League leaders in batting average, doubles, home runs, RBIs and walks.
McGuiness, 23, started 15 games at first base in April without committing an error and hit .305 with 10 walks, five doubles and seven RBIs. He was acquired from Boston as part of the trade package for Jarrod Saltalamacchia last year.
Rodebaugh, 22, did not allow a run in 14 innings during eight relief outings and held opposing batters to a .212 average in April. He recorded 20 strikeouts, including a career-high five strikeouts on April 27 against Augusta. South Atlantic League hitters have posted a .150 average with runners in scoring position and a .182 average with runners in scoring position with two outs against him this season.
