A's select IF Ryon Healy from Nashville; option OF Billy Burns to Nashville

The Oakland A's selected infielder Ryon Healy from Triple-A Nashville and optioned outfielder Billy Burns to Nashville, the club announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A's designated right-handed pitcher Nick Tepesch for assignment.

Healy began the season at Double-A Midland and was batting .338 with eight home runs and 34 RBI in 36 games when he was promoted to Nashville May 17. He hit .318 with six home runs and 30 RBI in 49 games in his Triple-A debut and is batting .326 with 14 home runs and 64 RBI in 85 games overall. The 24-year-old right-handed hitter leads A's full-season minor leaguers in batting, ranks second in RBI and tied for third in home runs. He appeared in 44 games at first base, 22 at third base and one at second base.

Healy is tied for fifth in all of minor league baseball in extra base hits (46), tied for sixth in doubles (28) and ranks eighth in hits (110). He represented the United States in the Futures Game at San Diego last Sunday and went 2-for-3 with a double and walk. The A's third round selection in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, Healy is a .294 career hitter with 46 home runs and 238 RBI in 392 career games. He is the second pick from that draft to reach the majors along with Dillon Overton.

Burns was on the A's Opening Day roster and batted .234 with 14 stolen bases in 73 games. He hit .271 over his first 42 games but was batting just .173 over his last 31 contests. Burns ranks fifth in the American League in plate appearances per strikeout (9.7), tied for seventh in triples (4) and eighth in stolen bases.

Tepesch was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers June 27 and went 1-1 with a 5.51 ERA in three starts with Nashville. He began the season in the Texas organization, was released on June 4, signed with the Dodgers June 6 and made one Major League start on June 24, a loss. Tepesch is a combined 8-3 with a 3.96 ERA in 17 starts at Triple-A.
