Rays option Conger to Durham

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays have optioned Hank Conger to Triple-A Durham. The team will make a corresponding roster move later this week.

Tampa Bay does not have a backup catcher for Curt Casali, so chances are the club will either recall Luke Maile or select the contract of J.P. Arencibia.

Conger has struggled offensively and defensively this season, hitting .194 with three home runs and 10 RBIs in 49 games after coming to the Rays from the Astros this offseason.

Bill Chastain has covered the Rays for MLB.com since 2005. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
