Toronto's Encarnacion disciplined

Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter/first baseman Edwin Encarnacion has received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for making contact with Umpire Vic Carapazza in the bottom of the first inning of the Club's Friday, July 1st game against the Cleveland Indians at Rogers Centre. Joe Garagiola, Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards & On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

Encarnacion's suspension had been scheduled to be served this afternoon, when the Blue Jays are to conclude their series against Cleveland. However, Encarnacion has elected to appeal. Thus, the discipline issued to him will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
