Morales and Duffy Named Player and Pitcher of the Month for June

The Kansas City Royals announced that Kendrys Morales has been named Royals Majestic Player of the Month and Danny Duffy is the Pitcher of the Month for June. The player award is determined by a combined fan and media vote, with the pitcher award voted on by local media. It marks the second time each player has been honored with the team's monthly awards in their careers.

Morales hit .402 (35-for-87) during the month, which included multi-hit games in each of the last six contests. His June average ranked fourth in the Major Leagues. He reached base safely in eight-straight plate appearances June 16-18, while he's reached via a hit or a walk in his last 15 starts. Morales recorded his 15th career multi-homer game on June 26 vs. Houston, while on June 18 he became the fifth Royal to score four runs, collect four hits and drive in five runs in the same game, doing it vs. Detroit. He's started the last two games in right field, his first contests in the outfield since 2008. He was also named Royals Player of the Month for September of last year.

Duffy went 3-1 with a 3.25 ERA in six June starts, recording 45 strikeouts which tied for third-most in the Majors and the most by a Royal in a calendar month since Zack Greinke fanned 49 in August of 2009. He collected a career-high 10 K's in 6.0 scoreless innings on June 11 in Chicago. He joined Paul Splittorff as the only Royals lefties to record double-digit strikeouts in a scoreless outing of 6.0 innings or more. Duffy also matched a career high with 8.0 innings pitched in a 6-2 victory over St. Louis Monday. The lefty was also named Royals Pitcher of the Month in June of 2014.
