Pirates sign two players to minor league contracts

The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed the following players to minor league contracts.

Name, position: Daniel Cucjen, INF
Height, weight: 6-1/185
School: University of Alabama
Affiliate assignment: Bristol Pirates

Played four seasons at the University of Alabama, where he recorded a .237 average (52-for-219) with four doubles, two home runs and 21 RBI in 100 games (57 starts)...Hit .205 (23-for-112) with two doubles, a home run and 10 RBI in 28 games as a senior this past season for the Crimson Tide.

Played two seasons at the University of Georgia, where he hit a combined .239 with four doubles, three triples, three home runs, 35 RBI and 29 stolen bases in 109 games...Hit .236 (46-for-195) with a double, triple, two home runs, 20 RBI and a team-high tying 13 stolen bases in 55 games (53 starts) this past season for the Bulldogs...Appeared in four games this sum- mer for the Schaumburg Boomers of the independent Frontier League...His father, Boris King, was selected by the Pirates in the sixth round of the 1983 draft.
