Geltz optioned to make room for Arcia

Farquhar to be club's 26th man for day-night doubleheader

Geltz optioned to make room for Arcia

BALTIMORE -- The Rays were busy with their roster following Friday night's 6-3 loss to the Orioles.

Steve Geltz was optioned to Triple-A Durham. Taking his place on the 25-man roster is outfielder Oswaldo Arcia, whom the Rays acquired from the Twins on Friday. The team also announced that right-hander Danny Farquhar will be the team's 26th man for Saturday's day-night doubleheader.

Geltz is "staying positive," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "It's a little unexplainable what's going on right now. But we'll continue to support him and try to get him right. Get him to the spot where he was last year, pitching a lot of crucial innings for us."

Geltz surrendered a home run to Manny Machado in the eighth. He has allowed eight homers in his last 10 2/3 innings and has given up 10 home runs in 20 innings on the season.

"It just happens, dude," Geltz said. "Every time I make a mistake this year, it gets hit out. And even the ones I'm not making mistakes on get hit out."

Bill Chastain has covered the Rays for since 2005. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
