Leone launches grand slam for Giants

Padres at the plate: There were plenty of offensive highlights for the Padres, who scored eight runs in the third inning alone. Adrian Gonzalez had a two-run home run and a run-scoring double. Khalil Greene added two hits, including a two-run home run. Brian Giles added a two-run double.

Giants at the plate: Lance Niekro had three hits, including a home run. He wasn't the only Giant to go deep as Pedro Feliz had a solo home run and Justin Leone blasted a grand slam in the fourth inning. Kevin Frandsen had two hits.

Padres on the mound: Jack Cassel started for San Diego and allowed two runs on four hits in two innings. Steve Watkins allowed four runs in the fourth inning, all coming on Leone's grand slam. Scott Linebrink allowed a home run to Niekro in his one inning of work. Cla Meredith allowed two hits but worked a scoreless inning. Heath Bell threw two scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 0.90.

Giants on the mound: Scott Atchison, who is battling for a spot on the roster, got the start and allowed two runs on two hits in one inning, including Greene's two-run shot. Sun-Woo Kim was shelled in the third inning, allowing eight runs on seven hits. He got just two outs. Jonathan Sanchez fared much better, tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings.

Cactus League records: Padres 13-11-1; Giants 12-15.

Up next: The Padres are at home in Peoria on Monday facing the Royals in a night game. Clay Hensley makes the start for San Diego. San Francisco is at home in Scottsdale against the White Sox. Matt Cain gets the starting nod.
