Diamondbacks at the plate: Arizona got started early off starter Mike Thompson, scoring a run in each of the first two innings. The D-backs added three in the fifth inning off reliever Ryan Klatt.

Padres at the plate: The Padres were held scoreless through five innings, but the offense took off in the sixth. Terrmel Sledge hit his sixth home run of the spring in the bottom of the sixth, and Matt Antonelli hit a pinch-hit three-run homer in the same inning to take a 7-5 lead.

Diamondbacks on the mound: Micah Owings didn't give the Padres much to work off of in his four innings of work, giving up just two hits. The bullpen fell apart for Arizona, giving up seven runs in the sixth.

Padres on the mound: Right-hander Mike Thompson got the start and gave up one earned run on three hits in four innings. He struck out one and walked two. Mike Ekstrom loaded the bases and walked in a run in the bottom of the ninth but still was able to come up with the save.

Cactus League records: Diamondbacks 14-9; Padres 11-11-1

Up next: The squad was split on Saturday, but will be together vs. San Francisco on Sunday. Jack Cassel (0-1, 9.00 ERA) will get the start for San Diego. Game time is scheduled 1:05 p.m. PT.
