DIAMONDBACKS 5, WHITE SOX 4
at Tucson, Ariz.
Friday, March 24
White Sox at the plate:
Rob Mackowiak got the White Sox on the board in the second when his triple to center scored Alex Cintron from first. Mackowiak was also in the middle of things in the fifth when he led off the frame with an infield single, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on Darin Erstad's double to center. Erstad hit his first homer of the spring, a solo shot with one out in the seventh.
D-backs at the plate:
Shortstop Stephen Drew showed why manager Bob Melvin likes him in the leadoff spot as he started the first with a single to center, stole second and scored on Orlando Hudson's single. Chad Tracy was 2-for-2 with a two-run double. Tracy also walked twice. Scott Hairston tripled and scored on Alberto Callaspo's sac fly in the seventh.
White Sox on the mound: Jon Garland had his longest outing of the spring as he went 5 2/3 innings. Garland allowed a first-inning run, but then shut the D-backs down for the next three before he allowed three in the fifth.
D-backs on the mound:
Starter Doug Davis held the White Sox to just one run through his first four innings of work before giving up a two-spot in the fifth. A bigger plus for Davis, who walked four in his last outing, was the fact that he allowed just one free pass.
Cactus League records:
White Sox 9-17; D-backs 15-8.
The White Sox play host to the Rangers on Sunday at Tucson Electric Park with left-hander Mark Buehrle getting the starting nod against Kameron Loe. Meanwhile, the D-backs travel across town to take on the Rockies at Hi Corbett Field with Edgar Gonzalez starting against Rodrigo Lopez.
