The Red Sox have promoted top prospect Yoan Moncada to Double-A Portland. Moncada is the No. 5 overall prospect in baseball, according to MLBPipeline.com.
Moncada, 21, produced a .307/.427/.496 slash line with four home runs and 36 steals in 61 games with Class A Advanced Salem before his promotion. Moncada helped lead Salem to a first-half title in the Carolina League, homering in his final game.
He's also improved his defense at second base in his second Minor League season. Moncada reportedly will join Portland on Tuesday.
A five-tool prospect, Moncada signed with the Red Sox in March 2015. The deal included a $31.5 million bonus.
