MIAMI -- Ichiro Suzuki was honored for his 4,257 combined career professional hits, one ahead of Pete Rose's total, before Friday night's 5-1 win for the Marlins over the Rockies at Marlins Park.
Ichiro was given the base from his ninth-inning double on Wednesday in San Diego that put him ahead of Rose. Players and fans gave a standing ovation to the veteran, who has accrued 2,980 Major League hits, 20 shy of 3,000, over 16 seasons after getting a pinch-hit single in the seventh inning.
