Angels conclude 2016 First-Year Player Draft

The Angels selected 30 players on day three of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, as announced by Angels' Director, Scouting Ric Wilson. The Angels selected catcher Matt Thaiss (University of Virginia) in the first round (16th overall) of the draft on Thursday, June 9.

Overall, the club selected 15 pitchers (12 RHP & three LHP) and 25 position players (four catchers, nine infielders & 12 outfielders). The Angels draft picks included 32 college players and eight high school players. Torii Hunter Jr., (23rd round) is the son of former Angels All-Star outfielder Torii Hunter and played both football and baseball at Notre Dame.

The Angels selected nine players that either attended school in California or are originally from the state. The Halos selected two players each out of Texas A&M, the University of Arizona and Vanguard University.
