Community Heroes Week presented by the Atlanta Braves Foundation and FOX Sports South is a weeklong community initiative that will highlight and celebrate inspirational individuals throughout Braves Country. Community Heroes Week will take place from August 16-19, when the Braves are home to the Minnesota Twins and the Washington Nationals.
"Serving the Braves Country community has always been an integral part of our mission," said Derek Schiller, Atlanta Braves president of business. "We created Community Heroes Week as an extension of those efforts and to serve as an avenue of recognition and gratitude for the many deserving individuals that have inspired Braves Country."
The Braves are seeking individuals who are making a positive impact in their community whether it be through acts of goodwill, overcoming adversity or raising awareness for a worthy cause. A panel of Braves and FOX Sports South staff will select four individuals based on those criteria to be the 2016 Community Heroes Week honorees. Nominations will be accepted from June 10-July 22 on braves.com/inspire.
Each honoree will then be given a day of their dreams, complete with surprise elements and special guests. At the end of each day, the honoree will visit Turner Field for a VIP Experience at the game and an on-field check presentation for a charity of their choice. All presentations will also be televised live on FOX Sports South, FOX Sports Southeast, and FOX Sports GO. The Braves will use each day as a platform to share the story of the individual and bring awareness to their cause or organization.
Community Heroes Week aims to shine a light on these community figures not only to reward their efforts, but also to remind Braves Country that everyone has the power, opportunity and tools to make a difference in their community and beyond.
